Frequently Asked Questions
Training FAQ
What types of training programs do you offer?
We offer Puppy Training, Basic Obedience and Behavioral Modification, Private Walks with a Trainer, Dog Training for Kids, and Online Consultations. Each program is tailored to your dog's age, temperament, and your specific goals.
What is included in Puppy Training?
Puppy Training covers foundational skills: sit, stay, come, leash manners, and house-training guidance. Sessions also address socialization, bite inhibition, and building a positive relationship with your pup from the start.
What does Basic Obedience and Behavioral Modification cover?
This program addresses common behavioral challenges such as jumping, pulling on leash, excessive barking, and reactivity. We use positive reinforcement methods to build reliable commands and calm behavior in everyday situations.
What is a Private Walk with a Trainer?
A Private Walk with a Trainer combines exercise and structured training in the real world. Your dog practices leash manners, focus, and commands during an actual walk — exactly where the challenges happen.
What is Dog Training for Kids?
This session teaches children how to communicate clearly and safely with dogs. Kids learn how to give commands, read dog body language, and build a respectful, confident bond with their pet.
How do Online Consultations work?
Online Consultations are conducted via video call. You share your concerns, we observe your dog's behavior through video, and provide a personalized training plan with step-by-step guidance you can implement at home.
Do I need to be present during training sessions?
Yes — your involvement is essential. Training is most effective when owners learn alongside their dogs. We coach you on the techniques so you can reinforce the work between sessions.
Do you use shock collars?
No. We never use shock collars, prong collars, or any aversive equipment. Our methods are fully force-free, based on positive reinforcement and building trust between you and your dog.
Dog Hiking FAQ
Why is hiking better than a city walk?
Hiking engages your dog's body and mind in ways a sidewalk simply can't. Natural terrain, new scents, varied surfaces, and open space provide deep physical exercise and genuine mental stimulation — leaving your dog truly tired and satisfied.
How long are the hikes?
Hikes are typically 2–3 hours, including pickup, travel to the trail, the hike itself, and drop-off. The actual trail time varies by location and group pace, usually 60–90 minutes of active hiking.
What areas do you serve?
We serve Manhattan and surrounding neighborhoods. Pickup and drop-off are available within our service zone. Contact us to confirm coverage for your specific address.
My dog is shy, anxious, or reactive. Can they join?
Possibly, yes. We assess each dog individually before adding them to a group hike. For dogs with significant anxiety or reactivity, we may recommend a private hike first so they can get comfortable with the format before joining a group.
Do you offer private hikes?
Yes. Private hikes are available for dogs who need one-on-one attention, have mobility limitations, or simply do better without other dogs around. Contact us to schedule.
Where do the hikes take place?
We rotate through several green spaces and nature trails accessible from the city — including spots in New Jersey, Westchester, and local parks with natural terrain. The exact location varies by session.
Are the dogs off-leash?
Only in designated off-leash areas where it is safe and appropriate for each dog. Dogs are always leashed during transitions, near roads, and in areas where off-leash isn't permitted. Off-leash access depends on each dog's recall reliability.
What safety measures do you take?
All dogs wear ID tags and are leashed when near roads or hazards. Group sizes are kept small. We carry a first-aid kit on every hike, have emergency contacts for every dog, and monitor each dog's energy and condition throughout.
Will I receive updates during the hike?
Yes. We send photo updates during the hike so you can see how your dog is doing. You'll know your pup is happy and having a great time.
How many dogs join each outing?
Groups are kept small — typically 4 to 6 dogs — to ensure each dog gets proper attention and the hike stays manageable and safe.
What days are hikes available?
Hikes run on a regular weekly schedule. Contact us to find out current availability and which days work for your dog's schedule.
My dog gets carsick. Will she be okay?
We take this seriously. Rides are kept as smooth and calm as possible. If your dog has a history of motion sickness, let us know — we can discuss whether a short trial ride makes sense before committing to a full hiking outing.
What time is pickup and drop-off?
Pickup is typically in the morning, and drop-off is in the early afternoon. Exact times depend on your location and the day's route. You'll receive a more precise window the day before.
Can you drop off my dog later in the day?
In some cases, yes — depending on the day's schedule and other drop-offs. Let us know your needs and we'll do our best to accommodate. Additional fees may apply for significantly out-of-route drop-offs.
What do I need to pack for my dog on a hike?
We handle water and basic supplies on the trail. Please make sure your dog has their collar with ID tags and any medications they may need. If your dog has dietary needs or special items, just let us know in advance.
Dog Concierge FAQ
Who is this service designed for?
Dog Concierge is designed for busy owners who need reliable, high-touch care for their dog. Whether you need vet transport, errand running, or flexible day care, this service adapts to your schedule and your dog's specific needs.
Is my dog transported safely?
Absolutely. Your dog is secured with a seatbelt harness or in a crate during all car travel, never loose in the vehicle. Safety during transport is a non-negotiable part of every concierge outing.
What car do you use?
We use a clean, well-maintained personal vehicle. It is not a large van or shared transport — your dog rides in a calm, private setting, which is especially important for anxious or sensitive dogs.
How do I get started with Dog Concierge?
Start with a short consultation call so we can understand your dog's needs and routine, then we'll put together a plan that fits your schedule.
